My ORD COUNT DOWN:

myNSLifeI am enlisted in the army on the 22 OCT 2001. I had mixed feelings about National Service. It would be a two and a half years distruption from a normal (civilian) lifestyle.

The day finally came. My family accompanied me to the ferry terminal where I would be transported to Tekong island for training. I was posted to an obese company. There, I begin my 4 months of BMT. Life was... TERRIBLE! :P I hate the language used there but it is the way of life. I hate regimental life but there is nothng much I can do. Some of my superiors are nice but most are :P

In this environment, I stick to my strong convictions to use proper language to speak and maintain my choice of diet.

On the whole, I met a few people whom I can get along with. There we became good friends after passing out from BMT and posted to the same unit.

I am posted to OPFOR COY in ATEC. I am surppose to be train as an aggressor to fight against the battalions as our unit conducts evaluations. However, I was put out-of-course due to my leg injuries. 2 months later, my OC attached me to ATEC HQ. There, I spend the rest of my NS life until I ORD.

At HQ, I know a few clerks, medics and storemen. We have fun and we worked hard. I had the opportunity to go overseas too! Life is not so bad.

NS, although is not pleasant all the time, have taught me to be more careful, discipline and street-smart. It is an self-realisation and exploration opportunity that school cannot provide. It is a special moment in my life that I will always remember.

DanielCK's Vegetarian Diet

E-mail Print PDF

Yes, I am a vegetarian!

daniel_veggieI have never expected myself to lead a vegetarian lifestyle, let alone pledging to be a life-long vegetarian. Meat had always been the top priority on my menu. I cannot imagine life without meat. However, this imagination has become a reality and I am still living well without the daily consumption of flesh!

Many friends have asked me the reasons why I choose to be a vegetarian, especially during meal times. My answer to these questions is - I choose vegetarian because I feel that I should be one.

Compassion is one of the ethical teaching of my faith. By practicing vegetarianism, one is also practicing compassion.

The path to vegetarianism is not easy. In 1998, I begin to change my eating habits. I start off by having vegetarian meals twice a month. With the support and encouragement of my vegetarian friends, I give myself another chance each time I fail to curb my temptation for meat. By God's grace, vegetarian stores are easily available within my housing estate. At the same time, I find out more about nutrition and vegetarianism as well as animal rights issue. As time goes by, I slowly eliminate different types of meat from my diet, starting with red meat and followed by white meat. A year after I eliminate meat from my diet, I start eliminating meat by-products and products with meat additives from my diet.

Now, as I recalled my road to vegetarianism, I realized that the choice I have made is worthwhile. My health and physical endurance have improved dramatically. Vegetarianism have given me the chance to try out new food stuff, which I may not have the opportunity to do so if I am still a meatarian! All choices in life has its positive and negative consequences. Although I received criticism, ridicule remarks, most comments have been positive. Irregardless of any negative comments, I still stick strongly to my choice because I know that I have made the right choice.

My vegetarian lifestyle is not possible without the encouragement from my vegetarian friends. It is the inspiration, motivation and encouragement from all my forerunners in the Tao environment that established my decision to change my eating style. It is also the same forerunners that stood by me when I first begin vegetarianism. Without them, I will never be able to continue this path. Now, as I examine my past and present in the point of view of a devoted vegetarian, I felt that all these have been the immense Grace bestowed onto me by Heavenly Mother.

Throughout the days when I learn to be a vegetarian, I have met trials and have failed a number of times. However, all these have served the building blocks to my achievement. Hence, now, being a vegetarian myself, I would be most willing to answer any inquiries which you may have. If you have any questions about vegetarianism, feel free to contact me. I may not be able to reply all e-mails but I will try my best to answer all questions

About DanielCK

myselfSo, you wanna know more about me yeah...

I am goal-oriented person who believes in fighting for my own rights and is firm with what I believes in. I aim for perfection in whatever I do. I do acknowledged that nothing is ever perfect though. In my life, I believe that failing is not an option there are no failures, only lazy people. Some people around feels that I shouldn't be such perfectionist but that's me. Laughing

During my free time, I would normally sleep blog on this website, watch cable tv, surf the internet and check out the latest dinning outlets with my makan kakis. I live love to eat thus I appreciate good (vegetarian) food with friends. Dare to eat, dare to workout. That is my philosophy. I jog, I swim and I cycle, whatever I can do to burn those calories I gained during each makan trip.

I have wonderful mother who will always cook dinner for me. She support my belief in vegetarianism and she will try different vegetarian ingredients and recipes so that my meals will have variety. Well I can say that I am very fortunate to have such a wonderful and caring mother.

Life for me, is an never ending experiential lesson. There is always something new for us to learn and picked up. I feel that life should have some challenges to keep it spicy and interesting. Leading a fulfilling life is my aim and be able to share and pass down knowledge is my passion. This fuel the energy to move towards the goals of my life.

Well, thank you for being intested and reading this section. Click on the links on the right if you want to know more about I, me and myself...
